Date: February 1967
Location: Stevens Point, Portage County, Wisconsin
Time: about midnight
Summary: While on his way home the witness was approaching the intersection of Whiting Avenue and Water Street. As he came to a stop at this intersection he looked to his right and saw a very large object in the sky just above Whiting Avenue heading his way. The witness got out of his car in order to get a better look at the object. It was a clear moonlit night. The object appeared as a typical flying saucer shape, smooth metallic in appearance, round, and domed on both the top and the bottom. What initially caught his eye was what he thought were lights around the middle. As it approached, he estimated the size at about 150 feet across and about 25 ft top to bottom. The object approached silently directly over Whiting Avenue. The witness then noticed in detail how it was of a smooth metal, no rivets, and that the lights were actually windows, which light from inside shown through. It was just above the trees on either side of the street. The witness at first thought it was a blimp and approached the object and began to wave his arms and jump up and down, since now he could see human-like figures sitting behind the windows. The craft then stopped directly over his head, in the middle of the intersection; there was no traffic however. The witness noticed that the lights on his car went out and the streetlight also dimmed. His car engine that had been idling also stopped. He continued to shout to get the occupants attention and waved his arms. The craft then tilted at a 45-degree angle, which lowered the edge of it even closer to the witness. He could now see clearly inside. At each window sat two pairs of people, there were about two dozen windows. The craft, always silent, began to rotate slowly so as to give everyone inside a good look at the witness. He could see the center where a couple of men seemed to be at the controls. The occupants looked normal to the witness. Both males and females in matching pant suits. Some waved back at him, all looked to be amazed. After what appeared to the witness that all aboard had seen enough, the craft began to rise just above the treetops. It leveled off a bit but still had a slight angle to it. It then darted off skyward in a flash without a sound.

Summary: This is the only surviving photo of the funnel-shaped flying object that paced the Fawcett Airlines DC-4 passenger liner in flight from Piura to Lima on February 2, 1967, at 06:30 P.M. The passengers were all held for interrogation by authorities after the plane landed. Several of the passengers had taken photos of the strange craft alongside the airliner, but all cameras were taken and all film was confiscated. One passenger, who insisted on remaining anonymous, succeeded in saving his film from which this single photograph was made. Lima, Peru, at 12:30 AM a cone-shaped object approached and paced a Fawcett Airlines airplane. The cabin lights dimmed, there was radio interference, and the radio compass oscillated.

Location: Stanford, California
Time: about 4 P.M.
Summary: Boys Snap Photos Neor Stanford University At about 4 P.M., on Thursday, February 2, two boys, Seth Morrell and Tommy Politzer of Stanford, California, claim they saw and photographed an object near their home. They had arrived home from school, were playing outside when they saw the object approaching them from the northeast. Seth went inside his home and got a camera, and when he came back he took three photos after which the object moved away out of sight beyond some trees. A friend oI the boys came along, they took photos of each other and the friend went on his way. Shortly the object came into view again, from the northeast, moving rapidly in a southwesterly direction. The boys had time to take just one other photo (their last) before it left. The two boys described the object as round, silvery and with “a hole in the middle, sort of like a doughnut, and windows all around the edge.” apro51They also noted two bright lights which blinked on and off several times. Both thought the object was at least as big as “a four engine jet.”

In attempting to describe the noise made by the object, they used words such as humming, whirring, buzzing, whining, etc. Both boys were questioned by Mrs. Politzer, who is convinced that they actually saw and photographed the object, three exposures of which are presented on this page. The color negatives were received at APRO Headquarters, where they are being studied. Mrs. Politzer learned about the photos some time after they were taken, and recalls that her son Tommy had mentioned seeing a UFO, but she had paid little attention to it, as she was preoccupied at the time. – Despite the good attribution and background of the boys, it has been pointed out that the object in the photograph strongly resembles an ordinary automobile wheel cover. See photos on this page.

Location:   Sumner, Illinois
Time:   10:30 PM;
Summary:    A well-known craftsman, who requested anonymity, reported to the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport that he observed an object for one and a half hours that was doing some pretty good stunts. It hovered, accelerated, changed shape and color, was observed with the naked eye, 7- power binoculars, and a 20x spotting scope. It was described as a very bright red object, flashing like a red neon sign. The upper portion was a very bright white and red and green lights were observed around the object. The object was seen in the east northeast and noticed because of its brightness arid erratic movement. It seemed to have a very thick rim.  To the west of Vincennes, and just across the Wabash River in Illinois, is a little town called Sumner. A well-known craftsman, who requested anonymity, reported to the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Airport that he observed an object for one and a half hours that was doing some pretty good stunts. In a letter dated 13 April, the observer mentioned that the LAWRENCEVILLE DAILY – RECORD had an article on UFOs seen farther south about the same time. The airport stated during a telephone conversation that no conventional aircraft were in the area at the time. This one sounds suspiciously like a star or planet, but there were no candidates unless he had his bearings completely wrong.

State Trooper Hollace Chastain was checking his rural mailbox right after patrol when he noticed an unusual and very bright object in the western sky. It was elliptical in shape, about the size of a dime at arm’s length and self luminous. Chastain, after observing a few minutes radioed Trooper James Blevins. The object then ceased to move and hovered for a while, then sped up suddenly, changed colors in the process from white to orange to greenish-blue back to white. It appeared to pulsate at times during the observation. No sound was detected during the 30-minute observation and the object finally disappeared behind a tree-line in the southwest. The object appeared solid and seemed to change shape. Estimated range: 5 miles. Estimated speed: (at acceleration) 1,000 mph

The object was reported as “soft ball-sized” and changing colors from blue to green to white. “It was stationary when I first saw it, ” he said, “but it was too big to be a star. Suddenly it started to move.” The interrogation form completed by Trooper Blevins stated that the object had flickered & wobbled during observation and finally dropped straight down behind a tree-line. The object appeared solid and was observed at least once through binoculars. It moved from southwest of his position (8 miles west of Brownstown) to due south above the tree line. Estimated range: 2-10 miles. Estimated speed: 1,000 mph at acceleration.

Summary:  The woman reporting requested anonymity. The report she gave to the DAILY HERALD-TELEPHONE provided the most vivid description of an unidentified flying object observed as far southwest as Oakland City and as far east as Crothersville……35 miles away. At this time she arose because of noises on the roof roof. She thought it was raining. That’s when she saw what looked like a quarter moon that was moving toward her. “I watched it for a half hour,” she said. “It would move, then hover, getting closer all the time. It had a bright light on the bottom. The light kept going around and back and forth an the ground like it was looking for some place to land. As it got closer I could see a bright band around the middle of it,” she continued. “It was oval-shaped, sort of like a cigar. The top was shiny, like metal, and the bottom was kind of orange. There was a crater on the bottom of it–and bumps, like legs.” It hovered near a utility pole behind her house for ten minutes. She said when she started to dial her telephone to call someone about it the object “turned real bright orange and then blue and took off.”

Timothy J, 15, heard his dog barking and a strange noise and saw an egg shaped UFO 75 feet long and 45 feet high descend and land on 3 legs in a field. An elevator like shaft opened underneath and several beings emerged, each carrying small spherical objects which they placed on the ground around the ship. Then they appeared to be waiting, until a man came from across the field, whereupon a conversation was held, and apparently conducted at least in part telepathically. The boy was then noticed and the man ran after him, catching him by the back of the neck, leaving burn marks. He was dragged almost to the craft when his captors suddenly looked panic-stricken, dropped him, gathered up the spheres, and re-entered the object, which took off rapidly.

7:50 p.m. EST. A state policeman saw a huge object, moving slowly, changing colors from white to red to orange, the color change associated with changes of speed (color/speed correlation). Venus was visible separately at the same time. (Ridge, 1994, p. 21.)Eight miles south of Seymour, Indiana (35 miles east of Bedford) Another State Trooper to see and report a UFO in the Seymour area was D. E. Swider at Crothersville, This ended a sighting group for that area and appeared to be somewhat similar to the reports of the 4th and 5th of February. At about 7:50 PM when trooper Swidar was patrolling Interstate 65, 8 miles south of the Seymour State Police HQ, they advised him of a UFO reported to the post. He, himself, saw the object in the west for about 10 minutes before it finally went out of sight further west. It was described as a huge, round object, moving left to right (slowly) changing colors from white to red to orange. This sequence corresponded with a decrease in speed, followed by an increase in speed of the object, typical of a UFO

The witness was in the kitchen preparing dinner when a call from outside from the father alerted the children to two UFOs over the house. According to the father, the objects were circling the house when first seen, and appeared round, bright and were very low. The witness could see “some people in a window on the spaceship closest over our heads. There were six people and going from left to right, the second person waved his hand over his head in a greeting. I waved back, and told my father. He couldn’t see them. I told my parents, ‘Look, there’s a guy waving at us!’ That’s when I knew they were my friends.” The objects hovered briefly over the house and then moved toward the high school, where the witness followed. “During that time I got the messages in my head and heard them talking to me just as if someone was speaking to you orally in a room.” The witness’s father drove the witness and the family dog to the school ground, where the observation and “contact” continued for an extended period. Although there was a dance going on at the time in the school, no one else appeared to notice the objects.

Feb. 10/11, 1967; Cincinnati, OH
11:45 p.m. EST. A number of independent sightings were reported of a reddish, glowing cigar- or football-shaped object either hovering or moving slowly overhead. At about 1:45 a.m. the following morning, in Milford (eastern suburb of Cincinnati), a railroad employee and companion were driving when they noticed a white glowing light in the woods. When they went to investigate carrying a flashlight, they saw an object with a tube-like appendage underneath (mushroom shaped). It was hovering a few feet above a creek bed and appeared to be about 30 feet in diameter. When a light was shone on it, it gave a metallic-appearing mirror-like reflection. When police investigated, they found freshly broken tree limbs (physical traces). The young woman was hysterical. UFO investigators found four other reports overnight of a glowing red-orange object moving mostly at low altitude. Summary: Report From Japan The following information reached us from Jun-Ichi Takanashi, APRO’S representative in Japan, It is a condensed version of a complete report and has been shortened in the interest of space, only: See photo above. On the evening ol 13 February 196? at about 5:58 P.M. Mr. Sachio Sakuma of Tokyo, Japan, was taking photographs of the moon with his camera, Petri V6, The camera datat 7/4 sec. (SSS) Fl.8 f255 mm S-2 T-5 x 42 (H20). Mr. Sakuma did not notice the object in the upper part of the photo when he took the photo, but submitied the photo to Modern Space Flight Association on March 17. He hoped that perhaps some’ one else might have observed the ob’ ject, but to date no information on additional sightings has been reported. Mr. Hironobu Naoi of the MSFA took the photograph to Chigusa Photo Studio and asked lor an evaluation. After care ful inspection they came to these con clusions: (1) That the photo was not a hoax and (2) the possibility should be considered that it was a photo of an artificial satellite. The photograph was then submitted to the Asahi newspaper for examination, ,-.they returned it with the same conclusions as those of the Chigusa Studio, then asked to enter it in their “Readers Photo Contest.” On April 7 Mr. Sakuma refuted specu- lation that the object in the photo could have been an artificial satellite as Iollows in a letter to Mr. Naoi: “As to the possibility that it was an artificial satellite; if it had been, it might have been seen after ten seconds or so alter taking the photo, as a satellite’s speed is rather slow, but I could not see any in the vicinity of the moon when I saw the moon again after taking the photo.” At the time Mr. Naoi had taken the photo to the Chigusa Studio he also sent copies of the photo to others, among whom was Mr. Joshichika Sakamoto, a comPetent amateur astronomer who frequently contributes articles dealing with the moon to astronomical magazines in Japan. His comments, (condensed) dated April 10 are as follows: comparing the photo tvith those of meteors, he could find none comparable. He felt that il it had been of a meteor the image would have been longer. Because the object had a faint “tail” he ielt comets should be taken into consideration, but the tail does not coincide with the direction of the sun, judging from the shadows of the moon, so h uled that out. He considered that it might have been a faint meteor which had suddenly exploded, but its clear outline makes it a very rare photo, if it is one, Considering the possibility that the object was a true UFO, Mr. Sakamoto questioned the reason why the object is blurred compared with the clear image of the moon, then comments that it could be due to speed. He stated that it was not possible to judge whether or Not the object was reflecting sunlight. Concerning size he said that no estimate could be made. Mr. Takanashi, upon receipt of the letter, comments and photo, recalled that he had seen a similar photo, then remembered that it was the alleged photo oF the Pegasus satellite taken by Astronaut James McDivitt on June 4, 1965 from the Gemini spacecraft. Takanashi says that even though the official release identifies the elliptical-shaped object as Pegasus, he is not convinced. Mr. Takanashi concludes that in submitting this report to the APRO staff some answers or at least suggestions might be Forthcoming. If members at large have any comments or suggestions they can be addressed to APRO Headquarters in Tucson and they will be relayed via air mail to Mr. Takanashi.

Summary: Esther I Millard, director of the Millard School, was returning to her home on the school grounds after her dog when she saw an object “the size of a small room,” 8 feet wide by 12 feet high, shaped somewhat like a blender with a very brilliant orange light at the bottom, hovering at an altitude of about 50 feet over one of the school buildings. A number of students were hanging out the windows of a nearby dormitory shouting, “UFO, UFO!” The object moved toward her rapidly, and she could see it was occupied by “a vertical shape of some kind” that ‘could have been a person;” the “shape” was seen through the transparent structure above the light. Half a dozen of the students had by now rushed out of the dormitory to see it. The object moved slowly westward towards the gymnasium building, seeming to land on the roof; it then took off toward the trees on the lakeshore and was lost to view.

Claude Edwards, a 64-year old farmer, saw a gray-green dome shaped object about 15 feet wide in his fields; he thought at first it was a parachute, but as he neared it he could see that it was resting on a shaft about 18′ wide that extended downward from its base. Around the edge of the dome were a number of bright-multicolored lights of oblong shape. Beneath the object were visible several entities less than a meter tall, also gray-green in color, moving about rapidly, with quick moving “lever or arms,” very wide-set eyes, and no visible legs. He also noted a protuberance where the nose and mouth would have been. The witness walked to within 30 feet and threw two stones at the object, which bounced off an invisible wall between him and the object. Walking up to within 15 feet, he was able to feel the pressure of this invisible barrier. The surface of the object was seamless, like gray-green silk. By this time the little creatures had disappeared inside the object, and it rocked back and forth several times, then took off silently, disappearing towards the northeast within seconds. He further described the creatures as appearing “like a penguin, not human without a visible neck.” The object, “it just looked like a big shell, grayish-green in color. There were still ground traces at the site three months after the encounter. At the site the soil was extremely dehydrated in contrast with the surrounding soil. At the center there was a depression 20mm deep sloping to 30mm in the central area.

A department store manager in Bay City-Wharton, ex-Air Force and familiar with aircraft, and his family, returning from church, saw a pulsating red light approaching fast and low. A bell-shaped object with a band of colored body lights around the lower portion and a brilliant white light in the upper portion crossed the road just above the treetops. A window or port was seen above the colored lights. A trail like fire appeared as the object climbed. Alerted by the above witness, prominent citizens in Lane City, including a newspaper publisher and an editor, and the Mayor of Wharton, saw a white light which approached them. They also saw a star-like light that maneuvered erratically. A farmer and his children west of Bay City-Wharton witnessed an object with white fire coming from it that lit up the night sky, and two more appeared to follow the first one.
