No. of Object(s): 1
Appearance / Description of the Object(s): They were silver cylinders cigar shaped. They reflected very brightly in the sun until it disappeared. No wings no tail fin. Smooth
Distance to Object(s): 17000 ft maybe it definitely got picked up on Hot Springs AR radar tower.
Shape of Object(s): silver cylinders cigar shaped
Size of Object(s): It was probably as high as commercial passenger plane would fly in clear conditions. If appear to be roughly the same size or a little bigger than a 747.
Color of Object(s): silver
Number of Witnesses: 2
Special Features/Characteristics:
Source: Reported To Think AboutIt
Summary/Description: Silver cylinder appeared to be hovering at very high altitudes on a clear day. Looked like a second cylinder was coming out and then coming in repeatedly for 3 min maybe 4. Then the second one went back into the other. The original silver cylinder rotated 90 degrees and then disappeared. 5 min later 3 military helicopters coming from the Hot Springs airport/ national guard base at the time, flew in a triangle pattern out the school then began flying a widening circular path for 3 to 4 min then left and returned back towards school. I was 8 years old at the junior open house so I don’t remember what day the open house was on but I had adult who’s was watching me while my mother met with parents of her new students. She still confirms to this day the exact same story as me.
Witness Analysis: Radar-Visual Correlation and Multi-Object Dynamics
The 1996 Lake Hamilton encounter is a significant RV (Radar/Visual) case due to the high level of corroboration. The witness’s description of a primary “mother” cylinder releasing and re-absorbing a smaller object is a classic characteristic of high-strangeness cigar-shaped UFO reports.
Key Analytical Points:
-
Corroborated Radar Tracking: The fact that the object was reportedly tracked on the Hot Springs AR radar tower at an estimated altitude of 17,000 feet elevates this from a subjective sighting to a documented radar/visual event.
-
Military Response Timing: The arrival of three military helicopters flying in a triangle formation just five minutes after the object’s departure suggests a rapid National Guard or military reaction to a localized radar anomaly.
-
Physical Characteristics: The absence of wings, tail fins, or visible propulsion on an object of that scale (size of a 747 or larger) defies conventional aviation technology available in 1996.
The August 16, 1996, sighting at Lake Hamilton Junior High School remains a compelling case in Arkansas’s UAP history. The combination of a high-strangeness visual observation—specifically the docking of a smaller cylinder into a larger “mother” craft—and corroborating radar data from the Hot Springs tower places this event in a rare category of RV (Radar/Visual) encounters.
The immediate military response by three helicopters flying in a tight triangle formation suggests that the object was not only detected by civilian radar but was also a significant concern for the National Guard based at the local airport. While the silver cylinder eventually rotated and vanished from sight, the impact on the witnesses—and the technological questions raised by an object larger than a 747 hovering silently—continues to intrigue researchers today.
