Size of Object(s): Approximately 50-70 feet across.
Color of Object(s): Silver-grey.
Number of Witnesses: 1
Special Features/Characteristics: No lights, no sound, no trails; moved at about 6 mph.
Source: Reported To Think AboutIt
Summary/Description: I was enjoying a cigarette outside the coffee shop, no smoking allowed inside. As I looked up admiring the design of the building and apartments above the shop for large silver grey saucers flew slowly over my head! I was frozen! I had goose bumps all over me and all I could do was watch as the first object floated by then followed by three more! I was so close to them I think I could bounce a rock off of them! The were quite large about 50-70 feet across and the moved about running speed which is about 6 miles per hour There were no lights, no sounds, no trails. I considered following them but I was scared I would hit some parked vehicles on South 16th street, it is regularly used for parking on both sides. I figured If I drove while watching them I was sure to crash into something. I ran inside and told four people what I had just seen and they did not believe me! I later reported it to MUFON and received no reply at all! Go figure! Unreal!
Historical Context: The Sacramento Valley Corridor
West Sacramento and the broader Sacramento Valley have a storied history of aerial anomalies, often linked to the region’s dense concentration of aerospace and military infrastructure. In 2008, California saw a notable spike in silver saucer sightings, with many reports mirroring the one on Freeport Blvd: large, metallic crafts operating at extremely low altitudes in urban environments.
The witness’s location near Sacramento City College is significant, as this area sits within a flight path that has historically produced high-quality reports. Unlike many sightings that occur at great distances, the West Sacramento event is categorized by its “intimate” proximity, where the witness felt they could bounce a rock off the objects. This level of detail—observing 50-70 foot crafts moving at a mere 6 miles per hour—is a hallmark of a Close Encounter I (CE-I) and provides critical data for the California Sightings archive.
Technical Analysis: The Physics of Silent Propulsion
The most baffling technical aspect of the August 12, 2008 encounter is the total absence of sound, lights, or exhaust trails. For four massive silver-grey saucers to remain airborne at such low speeds without visible means of lift—such as wings, rotors, or jet engines—suggests a propulsion system that defies standard Newtonian physics.
In aeronautics, maintaining a “running speed” of 6 mph for an object 70 feet across would typically result in a stall. The ability to “float” silently indicates the use of advanced field propulsion or anti-gravity technology, which manipulates the local gravitational field rather than pushing against the atmosphere. This lack of interaction with the air also explains the absence of sound, as there is no displacement of air molecules to create noise, even when these crafts are mere feet above residential buildings.
Regional Hotspot: The Northern California Convergence
The West Sacramento area sits within a geographic “convergence zone” that has long been a focal point for unidentified aerial phenomena. This specific corridor, stretching from the Sacramento Valley toward the coastal ranges, frequently records sightings of low-altitude crafts that show a particular interest in urban infrastructure and educational centers like Sacramento City College.
Researchers often note that 2008 was a pivotal year for the region, as multiple witnesses across California reported similar silver-grey saucers. These reports are rarely isolated; they often occur in waves, suggesting a systematic survey or transit through the area by unknown entities. By documenting this encounter on Freeport Blvd, we add a high-quality data point to a decades-long pattern of activity in the Northern California region.
The August 12, 2008 sighting remains one of the most compelling cases in the West Sacramento files due to the extreme proximity and the clear-headedness of the witness. For four massive objects to glide silently at 6 miles per hour just feet above a populated coffee shop defies conventional explanation. It challenges our understanding of propulsion and highlights a persistent aerial presence that operates with impunity over our cities.
As we archive this Close Encounter I (CE-I), it serves as a reminder of the “intimate” nature of the phenomenon. These are not always distant lights; sometimes, they are 70-foot metallic crafts so close that one feels they could “bounce a rock off of them”. This report stands as a testament to the witness’s experience and a crucial entry for the Think AboutIt UFO Sightings Report database.
