THINK ABOUTIT UFO SIGHTINGS REPORT
Date: August 19, 1995
Sighting Time: 09:30 PM
Day/Night: Dusk
Location: Vancouver Washington
Urban or Rural: In the rosemere neighborhood next to hwy SR 500.
Entity Type:
Entity Description:
Hynek Classification: CE-I (Close Encounter I) Observation of an object in close proximity to the witness (i.e. within 500’)
Duration: 5 minutes
No. of Object(s): 1
Appearance / Description of the Object(s): The craft was V shape, with fixed red lights (not blinking) under the belly. It was black in color and it felt to me that it was reflective, meaning the body of the craft blended in with the night sky. If I had not focused my eyes ( almost staining them) I wouldn’t have seen this. It looked like something out of star wars.
Distance to Object(s): This craft or object was about a mile away from almost being above my head. I would say the object was just above the tree line about 150 or 200 feet up.
Shape of Object(s): V shape, with fixed red lights (not blinking) under the belly
Size of Object(s): Relative size would be about 18 inches, actual size about a football field.
Color of Object(s): black
Number of Witnesses: 1
Special Features/Characteristics:
Source: Reported To Think AboutIt
Summary/Description:I was coming home from work, pulled into my driveway which there were no street lights around me so it was pretty dark out, the skies were clear, no rain just stars. As I was getting out of my car (pregnant at the time) I reached in the grab the groceries and grabbed the milk first and put in the roof of the my car. I happened to look up and over your right shoulder, ther just above the tree line (150 feet or a little more) I caught a glance of a red light which was not blinking. I thought it was odd so I put my groceries that I had in my hand back into the car to get a closer look. I noticed that there were move red lights in the shape of a V, than I noticed there were more lights around the first set of light in even a bigger V shape and as I focused more the there was even a bigger V that appeared, at that point I realized this was a HUGE craft (ufo) flying low traveling along Sr 500 going west to east, this thing was a size of a football field or more with NO sound. I watched it as it cruise away from me to a very low speed, it looked like it was going about 60 miles an hour, then it just disappeared into the distance.
Historical Context: UFO Sightings in the Pacific Northwest (1990s)
The 1990s marked a significant era for unidentified aerial phenomena in the Pacific Northwest, with Washington state frequently appearing at the center of high-profile reports. While the 1995 Vancouver sighting of a massive V-shaped craft remains a compelling case, it aligns with a broader regional trend of “Black Triangle” or large “V” formations observed during this decade. These sightings often shared similar characteristics: immense size, silent propulsion, and low-altitude flight paths over urban corridors.
Just two years after this Vancouver event, the world would witness the famous 1997 “Phoenix Lights,” which featured nearly identical descriptions of a silent, football field-sized V-shaped craft. Researchers often look to cases like this 1995 report as potential precursors to larger mass-sighting events. In the Pacific Northwest, the proximity to various military installations often leads to debates between classified aviation testing and true unidentified phenomena. However, the specific “Star Wars” aesthetic and the multi-layered light configuration described by this witness continue to make this August 1995 report a standout entry in Washington’s ufological history.
Close Encounter Classification: A Deep Dive
Expand on the Hynek Classification you already mentioned. Explain why this case is specifically a CE-I and not a CE-II (which would involve physical effects like car engines stalling or marks on the ground). Discuss the significance of the 150-200 foot altitude. At this range, the witness is seeing details—like the “reflective” black body—that are impossible to discern in high-altitude sightings. This proximity increases the credibility and the “profoundness” of the encounter.
Witness State of Mind: The “Star Wars” Comparison
You noted the witness was pregnant and coming home from work. This adds a human element that search engines love for “Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness” (E-A-T). Analyze the “Star Wars” aesthetic mentioned. In 1995, pop culture heavily influenced how people described the unknown. Does this mean the craft looked mechanical/industrial rather than organic or “saucer-like”? Contrast the silent movement with the heavy, industrial look of the craft.
The Science of Silence
The witness emphasized that a craft the size of a football field made “NO sound” while traveling at 60 mph. Address why this is aerodynamically impossible for known 1995-era technology. A conventional craft that size would require massive displacement of air, creating a “whoosh” or engine roar. The silence suggests a non-reactive propulsion system, often associated with theoretical “gravity-canceling” tech.
The August 19, 1995, sighting in Vancouver, Washington, stands as a high-quality example of a Close Encounter of the First Kind. The witness’s detailed account of a silent, V-shaped craft the size of a football field provides researchers with critical data regarding low-altitude unidentified phenomena. By analyzing the craft’s industrial “Star Wars” aesthetic and its defiance of traditional aerodynamics, we gain a better understanding of the persistent “Black Triangle” sightings that characterized the 1990s.
Ultimately, reports like this emphasize the importance of civilian documentation. Without the witness’s presence of mind to observe the craft’s multi-layered lights and reflective body, this event might have been lost to time. Instead, it remains a compelling piece of evidence in the ongoing study of aerial anomalies in the Pacific Northwest, challenging our current understanding of aviation technology and inviting further investigation into what exactly was cruising silently along SR 500 three decades ago.
