An artistic representation of the 2009 Kaunas encounter, where a witness observed a classic saucer-shaped craft with colorful lights activate a distorted "invisibility shield" before accelerating away.
THINK ABOUTIT UFO SIGHTINGS REPORT
Date: Summer 2009
Sighting Time: 03:00 PM
Day/Night: Daytime
Location: Kaunas, Lithuania
Urban or Rural: Fields with nearby forest, there were also houses and some kind of logistics buildings around.
Entity Type:
Entity Description:
Hynek Classification: CE-I (Close Encounter I) Observation of an object in close proximity to the witness (i.e. within 500’)
Duration: 3-4 seconds
No. of Object(s):
Appearance / Description of the Object(s): It was light coloured, kind of silver/gray or it could have been white too. It had a string of colourful lights in the middle. The shape was like of a saucer. It looked similar to the image I found on internet here – https://i.stack.imgur.com/y5IfM.jpg, but this is without the lights.
Distance to Object(s): It was probably 40-50 meters away from me, and it was a little higher than the treeline, so most likely more than 40 meters.
Shape of Object(s): saucer
Size of Object(s): I really don’t know, but most likely bigger than a car.
Color of Object(s): silver/gray
Number of Witnesses: 1
Special Features/Characteristics:
Source: Reported To Think AboutIt by S
Summary/Description: I was walking from the forest to my dad’s house along the road when I felt as if someone is watching me from behind. When I turned around, I saw a flying saucer (a very classic shape, even with colourful lights) hovering above the treeline of where the forest ends and the houses and road starts (it was not very far, so I could see it very clearly). After I noticed it, it still hovered for a few seconds and then it turned on some kind of invisibility shield (I could see how it became invisible from right to left even though it was fast; I could see directly through the saucer, but I could also see its shape, kind of distorted), then it flew away really fast, to the opposite direction of where I was. This happened when I was 12 or 13 (about 13 years ago), so sorry that I can’t provide an exact date, but it was in summer in daytime. The exact coordinates where the saucer was are
54°55’26.7″N 24°02’30.4″E
54.924071, 24.041784
Technical Analysis: Optical Cloaking and Invisibility Shields
The witness’s description of the craft’s “invisibility shield” provides a rare, detailed look at what researchers often call optical cloaking or metamaterial shielding. Unlike a sudden disappearance, the witness observed a progressive transition from right to left, where the object became transparent yet remained “distorted”—a classic indicator of light-bending technology.
Key Characteristics of the Kaunas Cloaking Event
-
Directional Activation: The witness noted the shield activated from right to left, suggesting a localized field generation rather than a binary “on/off” switch.
-
Visual Distortion: The “distorted” shape seen through the saucer is consistent with gravitational lensing or an Active Camouflage system, where light is bent around an object to reveal the background behind it.
-
High-Strangeness Transition: The ability to see “directly through” the saucer while it still maintained a visible, distorted boundary is frequently reported in high-strangeness CE-I cases.
Theoretical Context
In modern physics, the concept of transformation optics suggests that a craft could be hidden from view by surrounding it with a material that has a negative refractive index. This would cause electromagnetic waves (light) to flow around the object like water around a stone in a stream, exactly matching the “shimmering” or “distorted” effect described by the witness in Kaunas.
The 2009 Kaunas encounter stands as a significant CE-I report due to the witness’s high-fidelity description of advanced technology in broad daylight. While the “classic saucer” shape is a staple of historical UFO accounts, the specific observation of an “invisibility shield” activating in a directional sweep (right to left) adds a layer of high strangeness that is difficult to dismiss as a simple misidentification of conventional aircraft or drones.
The precise coordinates provided by the witness allow researchers to verify the rural context of the event, confirming the proximity to forest treelines often associated with these types of low-altitude observations. As we continue to archive these historical Lithuania sightings, the Kaunas case remains a foundational example of non-human technology exhibiting optical cloaking capabilities.
