Summary/Description: The witness first sent the photo and provided the following one liner regarding the photo: Saw silver object hovering over pier.
The witness later provided information about the photo in response to my questions. The photo was taken on the dock beside the Redondo Beach Pier at 150 W. Torrance Blvd.. The witness stated that the object was moving north to south at a high rate of speed (similar to jet speed). The object then stopped and hovered for approximately 5 seconds. It was during this time that the witness took the photo. About 2 seconds later the object sped to the south and the witness lost sight of it behind the pier. The camera used was a Kodak Easyshare DX7440 4 megapixel model.
2007 Redondo Beach UFO Sighting: A High-Speed Encounter Over the Pier
On the morning of March 31, 2007, an intriguing aerial event was captured on camera at one of Southern California’s most popular coastal landmarks. Between 8:30 and 9:00 AM PDT, a witness positioned on the dock beside the Redondo Beach Pier (located at 150 W. Torrance Blvd) observed a silver object performing maneuvers that defied standard aviation characteristics.
High-Speed Transit and Sudden Hover
According to the witness report submitted to UFOs Northwest, the object was initially seen traveling from north to south at a high rate of speed, which the observer compared to the velocity of a jet. However, unlike a conventional jet, the object performed an instantaneous stop, hovering silently over the pier for approximately five seconds.
It was during this brief hovering period that the witness was able to utilize a Kodak Easyshare DX7440 (4 megapixel model) to document the event. The resulting photograph shows a metallic, silver disc-shaped object suspended in the clear morning sky.
The “Daylight Disc” Classification
Under the Hynek Classification system, this event is categorized as a Daylight Disc (DD)—a metallic or whitish object observed during daylight hours. The total duration of the sighting lasted only 15 seconds. After its brief hover, the craft accelerated southward once more, disappearing behind the structure of the pier within two seconds.
The Redondo Beach sighting is a significant entry in our California Sightings archive because it occurred in a densely populated urban area during a busy time of day, yet it remained a largely singular experience for the photographer.
Comparison to Modern UAP Data
This 2007 encounter shares several “Five Observables” often discussed in modern UAP disclosure history, specifically instantaneous acceleration and low observability (no visible control surfaces or propulsion). While many coastal sightings are often attributed to military exercises, the silent hovering and sudden “bolt” of speed reported here suggest a craft of unknown origin.
The Redondo Beach encounter stands as a compelling piece of California UFO history due to the photographic evidence and the witness’s detailed technical description. While coastal regions are often dismissed as areas of military testing, the combination of a silent hover followed by “jet-speed” acceleration creates a profile that is difficult to explain with 2007-era drone or aircraft technology. As we continue to archive these Daylight Disc reports, the Redondo Pier incident remains a benchmark for urban high-speed UAP encounters.
